Hood repair rear 'screen'

Post by Doug G » Wed Nov 28, 2012 12:32

The rear 'screen' in my Mini Moke's hood is verging on opaque.

Does anyone have a recommended/suggested treatment to make it clear (or clearer) again?

IF, better make that WHEN, I have to bite the bullet and have the 'screen' replaced what is the suggested recommended type and thickness of material?

Has anyone replaced their rear 'screen' and was it OK with the old hood material (eg leaks, tears, etc) ?

The old one is getting to the latter stage of its life.

Do you think it is better to have a new one made?

There are products available to help this, but we used to use metal polish years ago on these type of windows, try a small patch first in the corner...............FF

This is posted in the public interest to get you to ensure that your children - if not you - use sun screen . . always.

Been there done that, paying the penalty.

OK so it is not Mini Mokes to blame, but I have had a life in the sun.

The damage is not what I did a few years ago but what I did ten, twenty plus years ago.

Yes I am talking about Skin damage due to sun, look after your skin.

The Aussie Mokers will know what I am talking about.

Last week I had 90 minutes of surgery.

Several (lost count) injections, 15 stitches later, 3 on face and 15 on back, after having two bits, 10mm and 40mm diameter each, removed. Now the are being sent for biopsy.
If bad there will be more surgery.

Then had 11 bits burnt off, 4 on chest 7 on various parts of face (including top edge of ears).
Some more areas (on arm) without anesthetic. Did not hurt as much as I anticipated.

All this and me a (squeamish) needlephobic.

Dont use factor say 15. Use 30 or above and reapply regularly. I use factor 50+.

Trust me, use sun screen, it is worthwhile doing.
