Re: RC Mokes
Have you seen the price of Plasticard these days?
Bought the bumpers today... a pair of 8mm dia hollow plastic knitting needles
and the windscreen seal... spent a while in Lakeland cookshop and found a sealable container with a nice rubber seal in the lid... I'll cut a slit in the profile. That will hold the perpex screen into the frame.
LEDs arrived today.... they're all high brightness ones... meaning they are all clear (like water) and only colour when powered. That was NOT the plan
went to Maplin and bought a bag of red and yellow LEDs
and 'yes but no'... no Orange LEDs available!
May buy a 'Little Big Man' to sit in the Moke... is about the right scale

Re: RC Mokes
Don't forget that all this extra weight will slow it down (just like in 1:1 scale) and those last 10ths of a second are important in competition
At least can add up

Re: RC Mokes
Oh well... it's not about the winning... but the participating. Well that's my excuse anyway - how else can I replicate the impact of approx 20 ST in an 850cc Moke
Bumpers look great actually - 8mm plastic ones are best

Re: RC Mokes
Shell's had first paint - just OE White bits left (grill, bumpers, wheels etc.). Couldn't find orange LEDs so until I do.. yellow indicators it is. I have yet to decide if I'm going to use the supplied screen. I may buy some modelling U channel instead. Need to find some first. Number plates are made up, not stuck on yet... and have found some suitable headlamp bowls (sides of an old Argos webcam). I will fit the LEDs in there tomorrow and don the glue gun! Have decided that I will probably fit a hood and frame. Then, perhaps make a small lighting board for the LEDs.
Would like to see some progress on the other shells. I guess it will be acse of the best is yet to come
For now...

Re: RC Mokes
Hi Graham, thanks. I'm quite happy with the results so far - wish I'd checked for a couple of small smudges on the inside of the shell prior to painting - rectified OK - I know they're there though
Well, they say a picture tells a thousand words so here it is. I used brass picture hooks - the type that are threaded one end and L shaped at the other. I drilled small holes in the original chassis bumpers and screwed in the picture hooks. The original chassis bumpers are hollow though so used some packing material for the thread to bite into. Your chassis bumpers may be different. Remember, mine is effectively a shortened FF02. The M03 that I think you are using may have a different bumper. Should still be OK for this type of fitting.
The new bumpers are made of 8mm plastic knitting needles cut to size. I drilled small holes into the bumpers and they sit perched on the picture hooks. I thought it looked quite authentic

I am looking for something suitable to hold the wind screen (cut from some polycarb packaging) into the frame. I have picked a rubber seal out of a small food stuffs storage box lid. It's hollow. I may glue it into the frame and slide the screen in. Will try tonight or tomorrow eve. Anyone else had any success?

i cut out the Moke with a swiss knife and a dremel.
Know we must paint them. What do you use exact ? Tamiya paint ?
And how do you do the paint on the Moke ? A small brush ?

Re: RC Mokes
Hmmm Curious hood.... on both
appears to be by design....
Yes, the spare wheel. I'm not sure how the one on my RC Moke will behave. It is resting lightly on the bumper though and that is attached to the chassis.

Re: RC Mokes
Sorry, not yet. But meanwhile I have decided not to use the Kyosho chassis but making a new one especially for the Moke shell. It will be made quite easy and rudimentary based on a aheet of 3mm thick aluminum and an easy supsension. I have some spare parts left from formely activities.janz wrote:Anyone else had any success?
Hopefully I will have the basic parts assembled within the next two weeks.
Jan, your bumper design looks great. Will have to look how to fix mine on the aluminum base plate.

Re: RC Mokes
Not a huge amount of progress - have decided to keep it 'English' - as FUD may undergo some changes soon... so I'll replicate M1NTY the 64 Moke
Bumpers have come up quite nice. Angle is optical illusion. Headlights are not as tidy as I hoped. It was a bit ambitious - Tamiya Chrome Silver was a bit old and didn't dry well
put my finger in it a day later and realised. Still, it's not too bad
With the lights on, it's great! Waiting to find some suitable U channel for the screen frame. That's when you realise that Model shops are few and far between
that's what Playstation and Xbox have done for the world
I didn't like the cover for the Servo cut-out area, so removed it. Found some green 'carpet'. Looks better I think - better than bare plastic I think.
