What type is my Moke

Post by mauritiusmoke » Sun Sep 10, 2017 12:07

Hello everybody,

I bought in Mauritius, the chassis N° is C01A1190 and engine N° is 99HB87P101945.
I know the engine is a 998cc.

I don't know the year of the car (1st register here 08/1988), and the model. Where was it built?

The tank is at the rear of the car, the wipers or not in the same place than I can see from others photos.
I want to start to rebuilt it, but first I need to answer to those questions.

Someone can help me?

Thanks.

If you need photos, I can update.

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

Welcome to the forum. Some pictures would be great and easier to Identify which model it is. It more than likely to be a Portuguese model if it was registered in 1988.

I've visit Mauritius several times, but only ever seen two Mokes. One was quite original - a Portuguese model, but the other had been modified significantly. Its possible that yours (with a tank at the rear) has been modified. The Australian Special Export model did have a tank at the rear, but the engine number doesn't match.

We'd love to see some pictures!

Hi,
Judging by your pictures

and comparing them with the photos in Roy Scotts original restoration book, I think what you have is actually an AEM Scout kit car and not a Moke.
I googled AEM Scout and found this photo of a Scout4.

There is an owners club on there as well as lots of info.

Good morning to you,

Thank you very much for your BIG answer, I am a little bit disappointed because it's a fake moke, but at least the model seems to be built in 1987 (my year of birth) and I bought this car for my Thirties birthday in November so I will take it as a good thing.

I will check the forum for this model.
About engine, someone has all manual with an illustrated parts manual of moke or this model who seems to be a reproduction.

Thanks.

Hi Jeremy,
Don t look on it as a fake Moke, more of a rare Scout! There seems to be quite a following of them and I'm sure it is still a fun car to drive in the summer sun! You can still join us on events when you have it restored, no problem, we already have others with similar vehicles.
Keep us up to date with progress.
For a manual including engine, I have a cd version which you can still get on e-bay
