Timing Chain replacement

Post by Richard King » Mon Jul 18, 2011 12:53

I need to replace the timing chain on my 1275 Moke as its rattling.A local garage has suggested taking engine out - surely its not that big a job? Haynes Mini manual says to remove rad etc etc but do in situ but mechanic reckons quicker to take it all out . If it is engine out it can stay rattling.!!!

It's probably easier to take the engine out (it's only an hour or so's job) But if you're a bit of a masochist it can be done in situ

I'm with Nigel. I've given up stuffing around with trying to pull the radiator out with the engine still in the car. Its quicker and a lot less hassle to pull the whole lot out. You can be more thorough too.
