Hi, Well engine still seems to be running great! I have been to two machine shops for quotes to rebore etc. and both have said that if the pressures good and i'm not burning oil then leave it alone until it does! So we will see how it goes.

Hi Chris.... appears that you are starting to feel comfortable about 'just enjoying' your lovely Moke. Glad it's going well.... but keep an eye on that temp gauge

Hi all,
Postscript to the 'poorly engine'. Ever since I replaced the head gasket, there has been a heck of a rattle, especially on engine braking down hill, something akin to a marble in a jam jar! I finally traced the rattle to the exhaust but it wasnt anything to do with the exhaust or brackets.
Well only answer was to take off the complete system. When removed I lifted the exhaust pipe vertical and out popped a very black marble sized 'stone'? Upon investigation I realised what the 'stone' actually was. When I had reconnected the exhaust to the manifold I had applied some exhaust sealing paste to the joint as it had been leaking previously. Well a blob of said paste must have dropped down inside the pipe, hardened off, and spent the next few weeks rattling up and down the pipe! Nice to know it wasnt anything more serious!

Took both Mokes out for a refresher spin today. 64 English started 1st time, fired on 3 for a few seconds and then resumed normal 850 reliability operation. FUD on the other hand - not used since the National - jump started and all OK. I accelerated hard and hear a loud clunk :o still driving OK.... so came to roundabout - braked - another loud clunk. It almost made Moke shake  . This went on for a while. Got back home, opened bonnet - looking for that red LED that says 'I'm here' Nothing  Looked behind the driver seat - whats that peg mallet doing there

Went out for a drive in the Aussie, got 1/4 mile down the road and there was a loud bang and the back end locked up in a skid !!! Stopped to investigate ( expecting to see a back wheel hanging off) only to find one of the kids had left the rear seat belt dangling and the back tyre had run over it

The gear selection on my Mini Mokes gearbox is like stirring porridge.

There was an article with a suggestion on how to minimize it. Can't seem to find it.

My kids (both in their early thirties) think I'm mad having a Moke, but now their kids think its brilliant and that grandads a cool dude! and when can we go out in it again?
So it must be an age thing, you need to be either pretty young or pretty old to appriciate the finer points of the truely wonderful Moke ( I'm very much in the later category!).

My wife KNOWS that I am mad to have and drive a Mini Moke.

She has prohibited our children from it, for fear that they will be crushed by a concrete delivery truck. Not worried about me, except to ensure the my life insurance is paid up. :o

Doug,
Hope you have checked that your life insurance covers you when you are in a Moke (high risk!!).
